Group Assignment - Video

LEADING ROOM: The "leading room" (also known as the nose room, leading space and/or leading) is used in many visual arts including: painting, drawing, film and photography. The "leading room" is when the subject is inside a frame that has "white space" in and/or behind the object (Space for the subject to move). An example of this is if a person walking down the street inside a movie has to get to the music studio, the director(s) uses a "leading room" frame to show that.
LOOKING ROOM: Look room is the space in front of someones face in a shot. It is a composition used frequently in photography and video. The room gives the impression is looking at, or talking to someone off screen. Without this room the subject will appear boxed in, or confined.

PANNING: In photography, panning refers to the rotation in a horizontal plane of a still camera or a video camera. I chose this picture for because in this picture it really shows panning perfectly and it shows how fast the car is going without blurring the car itself.

HEAD ROOM: Headroom is the amount of space between the top of the subject's head and the top of the frame.

Tilt: Moving the cameras lens up or down while keeping its horizontal axis constant. Nod your head up and down - this is tilting. Camera is stationary and rotates in a vertical plane.

Photo Essay - Main Stage Production

On May 28th, 29th and 30th 2014, Main Stage Production is performing The Three Musketeers in the L.C.I Auditorium, 350 Kipling Avenue. Over the past years, Main Stage have created plays with major succession including; Trojan Women, Pride and Prejudice, Vacancy in Paradise, and many more! The Drama Program is rewarded with many awards throughout the many years for their extraordinary plays.

Every single production, professionally published or not, has to have a script to follow. The Three Musketeers was written by a famous author/playwright with the name of Alexandre Dumas'.  These scripts from the fellow actors who participated in this production, were very beat up because they've worked very hard memorizing their lines during the rehearsals and outside of the rehearsals.

All of the actors and crew needed to have a sense of what the set is going to look at while rehearsing. Mr. Danakas, Kirsten and many fellow crew members took their time and effort to create an outline of The Three Musketeers set inside the Drama Studio where some of the long-night rehearsals took place.

'The Three Musketeers' was a play taken place in the 1630's. And, therefore, all the furniture was old-fashioned and antique-like. This is the prop table of the Main Stage Production of 2014 and it was filled with many different props of all shapes and sizes. Every actor that was involved in this production had at least one prop they were responsible for.

"The line is 'Hold my friend.....' said by the crew members sitting at directors table. Mr. Danakas was the brilliant director of this amazing play 'The Three Musketeers'. However, there were many other hands guiding the students to do their proper job.

Students of many different ages were involved in this production. This is just the cast and crew of The Three Musketeers. Before and after every rehearsal, Mr. Danakas gathers all of the cast and crew, sits them down and has a small chat with them.

With every rehearsal, whether its late night or not, there's always a chat outside the Drama Studio consisting of people from the cast and crew of the Main Stage Production. Some students involved inside of this huge activity were sitting outside the studio, having a chat about the progress of the play.

Every Main Stage cast and crew member, every single year, are all one big happy family. There may be fights, there may be disagreements, but there is always lots of love wherever you turn. Here, you see Kirsten, Bradley, Samantha, Ryan and Cali all engaged in an interesting conversation that got a hold of all their attentions.

All the cast and crew members of any Main Stage Production aren't just students, it's also a big, welcoming family of sisters and brothers from different mothers and fathers. Here, you see Jesse Thompson, Rebekah Orth and Angellia Gillbert interacting in a very interesting conversation that will blow your mind.

Composition Photos by ME!!

BALANCE: This image demonstrates being "balanced" because no single area of the image draws our eye. Instead, our eyes are free to roam around the complete image and take it all in.
LEADING LINES: This photo demonstrates "Leading Lines" because it helps guide the viewers' eyes through out the photo, making it more interesting. This photo is a man made "Leading Lines" photo.
PATTERN: This photo demonstrates "Pattern" because this image brings a sense of visual rhythm and harmony to this certain photograph.
SHADOW: This photo demonstrates "Shadow" because the sun is casting a shadow on the building directing the viewers eye to a certain spot.
TEXTURE: This photo demonstrates "Texture" because this image produces the effect of 'visual texture' allowing the audience to believe the rocks to be bumpy in this picture.

NOTE: All of these pictures were taken by my iPod on a separate computer at school because the original photos wouldn't upload because they were too big.

Composition in Photography

 FRAMING
This picture is a perfect example for a framing composition tool/rule because the cave is used as the frame to direct the viewers eye towards the landscape.
 LEADING LINES/DOMINANT LINES
This picture of a road is a perfect example for a leading lines composition tool/rule because the road is used to draw the viewers eye to the clouds.
 TIMING/DECISIVE MOMENT
This picture of someone swimming is a perfect example for a timing composition rule/tool because the subject is exposed to the most evocative form (the right timing).

 RULE OF THIRDS
This picture of a cheetah is a perfect example for a rule of thirds composition rule/tool because the cheetah is on intersection points and near the lines. It's an also much more interesting to look at.
DEPTH (SELECTIVE FOCUS)
This picture of a flower is a perfect example for a Depth (Selective Focus) composition rule/tool because the flower is in focus and the background is blurry.

Spring Sensations

(The black and white tickets aren't accurate to my final project because I lost the final project file.)

My idea came to me after the brain-storming-session we had in class, and after I quick sketched 20 thumbnail sketches. I had to choose from the many ideas I had for this poster and I also received help from Mrs. Silverman in the process of  choosing which idea to make a reality. After the brainstorming session in class we had, and picking the drawing I wanted to emphasis on Photoshop, I started to get to work creating my poster idea on Photoshop and making it a reality. I researched how to create the soil and the sky that you see on the poster. All the different kinds of shapes you see (Stem, music notes, treble clef, etc.) were included in the Photoshop program so I used all the different kinds of shapes to my advantage. Last but not least, I experimented a lot with the font, seeing what looks best and all of that fun stuff. I used a lot of layers in all three of these projects. The idea of music growing appealed to me greatly because it shows a growing of new classical music in the spring time. I chose my font style and color because it's very simple to read and it also has some design. When you think of spring, originally you think of light colors with movement, and that's exactly what I portrayed inside this poster. This is my Spring Sensation poster in color, black and white, and my Spring Sensations tickets in black and white! :)

The Elements of Photography

This one poster 'What's your identity?' shows the use of Space, Colour, Typography, and Contrast along with many other poster design features. This poster uses a good amount of Space because this poster doesn't have any clutter, the picture along with the texts are evenly distributed. Also, the big amount of space inside this poster catches the eye of the audience. This one poster uses a few colour schemes, but not too much colour. A bunch of "cool" colours are used inside this form of media. There is only one font used inside this poster and it's very easy and clear to read. Also, the tittle of it is bigger than the rest of the text. The good use of font style and size shows that there is a good use of Typography. In order for the text to be readable to the audience, the font colour must be a lighter or darker colour than the background. For example in this poster; light grey and a light violet colour font is against the black background. From my opinion, I think this poster follows many rules of poster designing.

This photo follows many poster designing rules as well as the one above. This poster follows Space, Typography, Contrast, Colour, Limit Info and many more rules. Why does this form of media follow the rule of Space? Because there isn't much information inside this poster making it have no clutter. This catches any audience's eye. Also, because the 'conserve rain water' poster doesn't have much going on inside, the rule of 'Limit Info' is also followed because this poster has only one theme. The font inside this advertisement is very easy to read and the colour of the font is against a lighter colour background. Like the 'What's your identity?' advertisement above, this poster follows the 'poster design' rules.

The '23:59' poster also follows the rules of designing a poster. The Space, Typography, Colour and Contrast is well used inside this big picture. The Typography is well used because the font size, colour and style is very easy to read. The colour of the font is a darker colour against a lighter background, making the design eye catching for the audience. There's a good use of space inside this advertisement because there's only a few things making it a not cluttered advertisement. '23:59' is a poster that follows the 'rules' of poster designing.

Photoshop Postcard

I chose the file format JPG for a few reasons. This file format works good with photographs and images containing many colors. This file format works better for graphic programs such as Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop, that allows you to view the image in good quality. I used two original images in this assignment. The first original image I used was for my background. This picture consisted of a sunset on a beach. And the second original image I used consisted of a women at a spa, relaxing. The size of the background image in pixels is 590 (width) 392 (height). I had this idea to make this post card 'Relaxation is Key' because of school. School can be a very stressful environment where you cannot focus if you're stressed immensely. If you are relaxed and non-stressed however, the student can focus and succeed in work, tests, etc. In creation of this postcard, my steps included; (1) opening the 'beach' image file I had saved in my Home Drive. (2) Open the 'woman in spa' image in a separate page in Photoshop that I also had saved in my Home Drive. (3) I transferred the 'woman in spa' image onto the 'beach' image using the move tool. (4) I used the lasso tool to outline the woman's face I wanted to include in the post card. (5) In the masks panel, I clicked on the 'Add a pixel mask' button making a mask appear. (6) I feathered and smoothed out the mask by clicking the 'mask edge' button in the mask panel and choosing how I want my mask image to look like. (7) The last step I used was clicking on the 'text' button in the tool bar on the left hand side and typed in the words "Relaxation is Key" before customizing the lettering to my liking. After all of these steps, the final product was made as shown above.
